"You see a very wet orphanage. And a very red orphanage."
"Is orphans, boss."

A slightly unconventional form of fan art, perhaps. This is based on the episode "Hammer Time" of YouTube Dungeons and Dragons series "The Oxventure" in which the party unwittingly enlists the help of some skeletons to mulch some orphans and build an orphanage using said mulch as mortar. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time, I'm sure.
This project was a great opportunity to work with organic shapes. The hard rough quarried stone, the smooth but solid bone fragments, and the soft and squishy viscera underneath all presented their own challenges that I had fun working through. Framing it as fan-art of Oxventure also helped guide the storytelling details - the blood soaked into the stone and the "Ethelfrith's Chosen" mason's marks are my two personal favourites.
It was also a much better-organised process, with things in proper sub-graphs and an easy-to-navigate flow to everything. This has not been the case nearly so much in the past...
